Fong Tiáo Yǔ Shùn, 2023
Photographer Yu-Hsin Chen says, ‘The colourful variety and sweetness of Taiwanese fruits represent its people and diverse culture’. For this project she travelled around Taiwan to document the important but declining farming industry and explore the relationship between the land and its people. For Chen, who has been living abroad, this journey enabled her to reconnect with the country of her birth which has helped to shape her identity.
Fong Tiáo Yǔ Shùn is a Mandarin proverb meaning ‘the wind and rain are good for the crops’. The proverb also embodies Chen’s hopes that Taiwan can enjoy peace and prosperity.
